We all use Social Media.
How often will you open WhatsApp, Facebook, or any social media to see how many people liked your post?
You are not alone, Pew research shows that more than 50% of Users visit daily.

This intrigued me to conduct a research on my own, I created posts of quotes about Women and posted on Facebook, Instagram, and also updated my Whats App status.
Below are the stats
| Post | ![]() |
![]() |
| Facebook Likes in 24 hrs | 45 Likes & 3 Comments | 82 Likes |
| 0 – (I don’t have any insta followers) 🙂 | ||
| Whats app Status in 1 hr | 48 views | 39 Views |
| What app Status in 24 hrs | 62 Views | 58 Views |
Interesting finds
- A picture speaks a thousand words. These posts got more views than my blog posts.
- Among those readers, 55% read the blog post for 15 seconds or less. May be my writing failed to grab the enthusiasm of readers.
- The WhatsApp views are a record high in 1 hr, as the posting time is around 12 to 12.30. Implies we all have the habit of checking phones during lunch instead of having a chat with a family member, colleague, or friend.
- People may stop checking my WhatsApp status after some days. By now, they know what will be the essence of my daily content.
- Facebook likes are less because we are easily lost by several posts from friends. Whereas Whats App displays as a list for the smooth user viewing.
- The second post earned more likes because people are more drawn to negative emotions. (The second post have crying women as feature pic)
- Sometimes we don’t even read the posts, but we are used to hitting likes.
- In the future, people may lose interest in a video longer than 30 seconds.
People may have different opinions on the same facts. My perspectives widened as below.
Technological perspective – We can track even clicks and views and convert them to money. Thanks to Data Analytics, Data Science, and Digital Marketing.
Psychological Perspective – The internet became a battlefield for attention seeking, validation, and competitiveness. We are feeling obliged to comment on our friend’s posts regarding their kid, achievements and celebrations, and many others. Likes are a kind of acknowledgment.
Pressing on thumbs up or heart symbol is easier than commenting ‘your posts regarding social media is very informative.’
Lifestyle Perspective – Patience, interest in reading, prioritization, time management all in question now.
I ended this blog post at this point, allowing users to infer and digest their own perspectives.
But the best thing happens unexpectedly.
On the second day of my post, I received the below message from my friend, who was my college mate. As usual, time, distance and life’s challenges created a long gap in our communication. Also, I have only been active in social media for the past month.

She was worried and messaged me to check everything is OK in my life, as both messages are related to challenges faced by women and how to confront them.
We cant compare 1000 likes to this one message.
Facebook friends hit likes
Good friends care
Close friends understand
but real friends stay forever beyond words, beyond distance and beyond time.
I read an interesting quote
It is not important to have a long list of friends on Facebook or WhatsApp But,it is important to have at least one friend who can read your ‘Face’ as ‘Book’ and ask ‘Whatsup.’
Don’t count your likes, count how many care about you.
That’s the meaning of life.
Dedicating this post to my beloved friend Preethi 🙂
